Flying Responsibly and Making a Difference. Every day.

At Air Malta, we understand that our industry impacts the environment in many different ways and also plays a significant role in the social and economic development of the communities we serve.

Air Malta's corporate social responsibility is committed to carrying out all our activities responsibly and in ways that make a positive difference to people’s lives and the environment. We are actively involved in the community and assist carefully-selected organisations which work to enrich people’s lives.

Our areas of commitment

As the airline of the Maltese Islands, we are involved in activities that support:

  • the arts and culture
  • humanitarian and social causes
  • environmental initiatives

Artistic and Culture Initiatives

Air Malta promotes the arts and culture of the Maltese Islands. We are often selected as the official carrier for artists and performers travelling to take part in major festivals on the Islands, such as the European Film Awards, the Valletta Baroque Festival and the Isle of MTV.

Humanitarian and Social Causes

Air Malta is often able to assist patients with their special needs when they travel to undergo medical treatment abroad. We are able accommodate patients travelling on a stretcher and have invested also in special housing - approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency - for a baby incubator to fit onboard the airline’s Airbus aircraft to carry newborns that require urgent medical treatment abroad.

We also conduct fund-raising efforts to help various Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), active in Malta, such as the Hospice Movement, Puttinu Cares, the Breast Care Support Group and the Malta Community Chest Fund.

In addition, our employees have set up a philanthropic fund called ‘Fund For A Smile’. This initiative, which has already provided nearly twenty years of service, organises various activities for children with special needs.

Every year, Air Malta’s employees donate part of their salary to Dar Tal-Providenza – a welcoming residential home accommodating people with disabilities who are unable to live with their families.
Other organisations which have benefited from these initiatives include Caritas, il-Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, Inspire and the Malta Olympic Committee.

Environmental Contributions

Our goal is to operate an energy-efficient business that strives to reduce its impact on the environment. To achieve this, our operations are constantly being reviewed to assess their carbon footprint and other indicators of environmental impact to understand how we can improve our eco-performance.

Our ongoing investment in technology and equipment is spearheading this drive. In recent years, we have moved towards a more fuel-efficient Airbus fleet, and have introduced electrically-powered vehicles at the airport, and are moving rapidly towards ‘paper-less’ offices.

Air Malta takes its role in reducing the impact of climate change very seriously and works together with its partners - Airbus, the Association of European Airlines (AEA) and the International Air Transport Association - to reduce emissions and fuel wastage.

Locally - as a small but meaningful contribution to enhancing our environment - Air Malta has sponsored a number of tree planting events. In the past few years alone, Air Malta has planted trees as part of the National Tree 4U campaign at Ta’ Qali National Park, Salini and at the Sports Complex of Luqa St.Andrews. The company also donated 350 olive trees to the Koperattiva Rurali Manikata.
