The Union of Cabin Crew Reduces Inflight Service

Date: Saturday, 30 May 2009
Ref: 031-2009

The Union of Cabin Crew (UCC) yesterday evening issued a directive to all its members to restrict inflight services onboard Air Malta flights as from Monday 1st June, after it said that negotiations on the new collective agreement came to a standstill.

The airline today rebutted this statement stating that this action came as a surprise since during a meeting held only yesterday afternoon it was agreed that negotiations would continue and in fact a meeting was setup for next Tuesday 2nd June.

Air Malta called this action unreasonable. Apart from causing inflight service disruptions to its passengers, this action comes at a sensitive time when tourism arrivals to Malta are being negatively affected due to the economic recession, said an Air Malta spokesperson.

The airline is also reserving all its rights in order to protect its interests, the interests of all the airline’s employees and the interests of its customers.

Air Malta reassures its clients that safety on board is not affected and that it is doing its utmost to minimise the inconvenience.
